A series dedicated to powerful women.
This body of work is devoted to both real individuals and symbolic or mythological representations of female strength.In these images, nature serves to both symbolize and amplify the strength and softness embodied by these women.
Impenetrable and transparent materials are combined to reflect their layered qualities.

This female dream hunter evokes the spirit of an indigenous warrior. She combines steely strength with sensitivity and transparency.

Samue with weeping roots
Ladies No. 27
This work is inspired by a samue — a traditional, simple Japanese garment — rendered in coarse jute.
A tree made of brass and steel rises from it, representing strength. Strength rooted in tears.
The contrast between the raw material and the delicate emotional layer evokes a quiet resilience — power shaped by vulnerability, anchored in human experience.

Njörun

This work is inspired by the Norse goddess of dreams, Njörun.
A woman in steel and a tree with a copper crown form the heart of this northern dreamcatcher.
The delicate leaf and embroidered roots symbolize the sensitivity that lies within this powerful symbol.

More than one in three
Ladies No. 23
More than one in three is an installation and the image of a powerful woman, firmly grounded like a tree with long roots. The installation is illuminated by a theme that is socially relevant.

The light flowing through the folds of her long dress refers to More than one in three pointing to the number of more than one in three women.
This light shines in two colors: a pale, almost white blue and an intense red. The red light, captured in glass, symbolizes the more than one in three women in the Netherlands who will experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime.

More than one in three is exhibited from 11 april until 11 2025 juli in the Missiekapel in Heythuysen.

Lilli’s Dress
Ladies No. 19 is inspired by the Dutch physicist Lilli Bleeker,
a pioneering woman who went on to found a lens manufacturing company.
A lens is embedded in the crown of the tree, symbolizing vision, precision, and innovation.
The elegant figure stands firmly rooted — grounded in a radiant evening gown that seems to glow from within.

Free birds for Mária
Ladies No. 17 is inspired by Mária Telkes, the Hungarian-American scientist known for her pioneering work in solar energy technology.

Samue voor Hokke-Sennin
Ladies No. 4 is dedicated to Hokke-Sennin. This hermit lived in the mountains on the Shikoku Island in Japan. Close to where she lived a temple was constructed, as part of the 88 temple route on the island.
The legend about her life and the temple forms part of the legends and stories about the 88 temples.
