The art of Andrea Haandrikman-Schraets is characterized by a use of diverse media, based in a traditional visual art practice in acrylic paintings.
Theme’s in her paintings are: a.o. stories, searches for insight and contradictions based in nature.
Her versatile work combines contrasting materials, rough and refined, opaque and transparent materials.
A reflection of reality that appears to be transparent and clear, but is only partly. The art work changes, under different circumstances.
The art on this website gives an overview of the last 5 years. More info.

“Tree (22/1)”
The third work in a new series works on strength.
This steel tree, combines strength, with vulnerability. Tree (22/1) consists mainly of steel and partly of transparent leaves. The tree is strong and deeply rooted. Its top floats on the steel branches. You can see through the tree top and it seems fragile. But it’s not that vulnerable.
2021, a.o. Cortensteel and acrylic paint
“Tree (21)”
The second in a new series works on strength.
The basis of this work is a combination of steel and juten. The pureness and roughness of juten is a key element in the Art work of Andrea Haandrikman-Schraets. The juten branches of the tree form the transition between the acrylic painted shape and the mixed media which is used to model the tree.
The tree itself consists of three-dimensional symbolic elements. Open for interpretation.
2021, a.o. Juten, steel, acryl.
“Kimono for Hangaku Gozen”
The first of a new serie, which includes strong women and strong trees (2nd half, 2021).
This is an era in which we need strong women and female role models.
In this serie strenghth and softness are combined. Impenetrable and transparent, this is the first symbol for female power.
This kimono is dedicated to Hangaku Gozen, a female samurai from the 19th century.
